The electrical performance of the AX860i is simply incredible, as the voltage regulation is being held at below 0.8% and the ripple suppression is outstanding. At maximum load, the maximum voltage ripple which we managed to record was 20mV on the 12V line, 14mV on the 5V line and a mere 10mV on the 3.3V line.

We would be unsurprised about the very high electrical efficiency of the AX860i since we already knew that it was an 80Plus Platinum certified unit prior to testing it; however, the AX860i also managed to maintain an efficiency of over 92% across the entire load range while it was being powered from a 230VAC source. Strangely, the efficiency takes a hit if the AX860i is being powered by a 110VAC source and the load exceeds 90%, yet it still conforms to the 80Plus Platinum standards.

The pre-programmed fan profile keeps the fan stopped while the load is too low, which is why we do not provide readings at 20% and 30% load. At 40% load the fan finally turns on at a very slow speed, with the AX860i maintaining that quiet operation up unit 80% load. At 90% load and above, the Yate Loon fan is clearly audible, although not annoying and will most likely be overshadowed by the rest of the system's fans.

We could not measure the thermal performance of the AX860i at low loads because the unit was into passive mode, meaning in turn that there was no airflow and all we could measure at the exit of the power supply was the temperature of the ambient air in the room. When the fan finally starts and despite the quiet profile, the temperature delta is kept very low considering the power output of the unit. Even at maximum load, the chassis of the AX860i would still not feel warm.
