The notorious hacker "Marcan" has solved the riddle surrounding the Wii U's CPU and GPU clock speeds, finding that its slower than Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
Nintendo's new Wii U console is extremely popular, and stores around the world have sold out countless systems and have thousands upon thousands of gamers on waiting lists. Having already sold millions, Nintendo's latest console is taking the gaming world by storm with its functionality as a media entertainment device as well as a full-fledged gaming console.
Although the Wii U has been met with critical acclaim and is a success, a recent look at its CPU and GPU clock speeds by renown hacker "Marcan" reveals that the Wii U's internal specs aren't very impressive.
According to GamingBolt's recent article on the subject, the Wii U's CPU speeds run at 1.24 GHz per core with 3x PowerPC type cores.
Marcan also revealed that the GPU speed of the Wii U runs at 549.999755MHz.
According to GamingBolt, the Wii U has slower CPU clock speeds when compared to an Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 (X360's Xenon @ 3.2GHz, and PS3's Cell cores @ 3.2 GHz). Marcan, however, warns people about comparing the speeds of a Wii U to that of an X360:
So yes, the Wii U CPU is nothing to write home about, but don't compare it clock per clock with a 360 and claim it's much worse. It isn't.
Now that the CPU and GPU clock speeds have been revealed, gamers and tecchies have a better idea of what Nintendo has been keeping secret all this time.
