Tumblr today rolled out a very important security update for its iOS app, urging users to download the update as soon as possible.
Last week Tumblr rolled out updated apps for both iOS and Android which brought “a new discovery experience,” allowing users to search tags and blogs directly through the app’s Discovery section. The section also shows users what’s trending on Tumblr at any given time. Today an update for the Tumblr iOS app has been released, users were urged through a blog post to install this app immediately. It appears that Tumblr was notified of a major security bug in the app, they’ve now fixed that, but users have been advised to change their passwords on the website just to be safe.
It was also advised in the blog post that if users use the same password of other services, they should change them as well. This security issue does not seem to affect the Android app, as no update has been released for it. Tumblr didn’t detail the nature of this security issue. It’s one of the world’s most used micro-blogging service, touting over 300 million users from around the globe. Tumblr was acquired by Yahoo just last month for roughly $1.1 billion.
The updated app is now available for download from iTunes App Store.
