Here’s some good news, Free-to-Play titles DC Universe Online and PlanetSide 2 won’t require a PS Plus membership to play them online on the PlayStation 4 console.
While online gaming on the PS3 is completely free of cost, Sony has made it mandatory to have a PS Plus membership to be able to play online multiplayer games on the PS4. Thankfully, single player games or local multiplayer enabled games have no such restrictions whatsoever.
But what happens if the game in question is itself a Free-to-Play title? Paying to play a F2P title online (only way it’s played) would be absurd, but thankfully Sony has avoided such a situation by revealing that DC Universe Online and PlanetSide 2, both F2P titles, won’t be needing a PS Plus subscription for you to be able to play the game online. Hurray for the F2P model, and hurray for the gamers as well!
Another interesting tidbit is that while DC Universe Online will support cross-platform gaming, PlanetSide 2 won’t. Sad, considering playing against the PC gamers would up the challenge for PS4 gamers in this multiplayer title.
