Dead Island: Riptide is the sequel to the first release in the series–Dead Island–and continues its predecessor's flair for gritty zombie-filled action that's infused with RPG sentiments and a B-movie style that's all its own.

The sequel incorporates all of the distinct elements from the first Dead Island, featuring a huge array of customizable weapons, a dynamic skill tree, and of course co-op play with friends over Xbox LIVE and PSN.

Throughout the game, players explore the ruined island of Palanai, a tropical island that's been overrun by the plague and has turned nearly every denizen into bloodthirsty undead. Riptide's story is engaging enough, with a surprisingly large variety of side missions and team-based quests that take gamers all across the reaches of Palanai, culminating in an overall experience that lasts for many hours.

Riptide Concept Dead Island: Riptide Review

Riptide is filled to the brim with zombie-slaying action with plenty of new nightmare-inducing undead, and contains all of the classic horror that can be found in a grindhouse flick. With a massive arsenal of customizable weapons like electric police batons, assault rifles, and spiked bats wrapped with barbed wire, players must fight their way through hordes of abominations to find redemption from the nightmarish and grisly catastrophe.

Deep Silver's newest release isn't just about slicing and smashing up zombies and gallons of blood: it also features a surprisingly dynamic series of RPG-like skill trees that aid gamers in their journey through the hellish ruins of Palanai.

Riptide keeps the emphasis on survival horror by collecting valuable supplies like food and miscellaneous items for modding weapons, going a long way for that genuine survival feel that's associated with scavenging.

Riptide Combat Dead Island: Riptide Review

The new release also blends in the heart-wrenching drama that's been reflected in both of the games' trailers, and throughout the game players have the opportunity to help people along the way. Players act as a dim ray of hope in a world overshadowed by chaos and death, especially when saving NPC's from their demise at the hands of marauding ghouls.

With an array of new features including an extended arsenal of weapons, a brand new character, skill trees straight out of a RPG, and the distinct grisly horror-inducing mechanics, Dead Island: Riptide is a must-have for all fans of the series and anyone who enjoys authentic survival-horror action.

Dead Island: Riptide is survival-horror done right, with plenty of action, drama, and other elements that fuse together to bring an experience that frightens, dazzles and brings a smile to your face–regardless of the blood-soaked rivers and dismembered limbs.
