Doom 3 Performance: Part 1

Our first Doom 3 tests will be using a custom time-demo from the Mars City mission. All of our testing will be in High Quality mode, where Anisotropic Filtering is automatically enabled at 8X.

Our high quality Doom 3 results were very interesting to say the least. From these tests it’s easy to see that ATI’s R420 with the Catalyst 4.7 drivers is having a hard time performing up to par with NVIDIA’s NV40 cards, with the NV40 based GeForce 6800 running up to par with the Radeon X800 XT Platinum Edition. We’re using the standard version of the GeForce 6800, one that is priced around $ 280, compared to the $ 500 that the Radeon X800 XT Platinum Edition is going for. The GeForce 6800 kills the Radeon X800 Pro in every resolution, a card that is priced over $ 100 higher, at around $ 400 a piece.
