EA and Visceral Games have launched the first digital expansion for Dead Space 3, entitled Awakened, adding new content for single player and co-op modes.

Awakened continues the story of Dead Space 3, letting players play as Isaac and Carver, who have been left for dead on the ruined planet of Tau Volantis. Gamers will be tasked with surviving on the planet, repairing the Terra Nova, escaping the planet, and then finding their way back to Earth, all while the Necromorphs attack.

A Dead Space game would be nothing without the psychological element, with images of the Unitologists driving the men to madness, blurring the line between what is imagination and reality.

“Dead Space 3 Awakened is some of the most creative and unsettling content the team has ever created — it’s really going to test gamers’ psyche,” said Steve Papoutsis, VP and GM of Visceral Games and Executive Producer on Dead Space 3. “We’ve put Isaac and now Carver through a lot in the franchise, but these seasoned vets are experts when it comes to taking down the terror. We can’t wait to see who is brave enough to venture further into the horrors that lie within Awakened.”

Dead Space 3 is available now in North America on the PlayStation Network for $9.99 and in Europe on 13 March. It is available immediately throughout the world on Origin.com for $9.99. It is also available on Xbox Live Marketplace for 800 Microsoft Points.
