EA not currently developing any games for Wii U
EA has confirmed that they currently have no games currently in development for the Wii U. This news is alarming but not very surprising considering it wasn't long ago when they mentioned that their latest game engine would not be coming to the console.
Today we have some troubling news for the already ailing Wii U console. EA has confirmed that they have no games in development for the WII U. This is obviously significant news, because EA is the largest videogame publisher. Nobody puts out as many games as them, and they also release some of the most popular titles in gaming, including a large variety of popular sports titles. As alarming as this news is for the future of the Wii U, it isn’t all that surprising.
It was less than a month ago when an Johan Andersson of EA stated that their latest engine, Frostbite 3, will not be coming to Nintendo’s latest home console. Considering a lot of the games coming from EA will be using this engine, it seemed like the writing was on the wall. The interesting part is that Nintendo and EA were boasting about their partnership at E3, but it’s clear that the relationship has since deteriorated. EA feels that they have delivered on the partnership already, so perhaps they weren’t satisfied with the results of the games they have released to date, and decided to back out entirely.
Either way this is just another hit to a console that I’m not too sure can take many more. Nintendo is going to have to pull a rabbit out of a hat, but we’ll have to wait until we get closer to E3 to see what they have planned. The hill will only get steeper as Sony and Microsoft are on the verge of releasing their own next-generation consoles. Things are sure to heat up.
