EA hasn't released an NBA Live game since 2009, but that streak looks like it might finally come to an end as the company has said that it plans to release NBA Live 14 on next-gen consoles this year.
According to EA’s chief financial officer Blake Jorgensen, NBA Live 14 will be releasing on next generation consoles in 2013; PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One. You shouldn’t expect a Wii U version considering their recent comments about not having any games in development for the ailing system.
It’s hard to believe that this game will be released at all considering its very rocky past with EA. The last one they made and actually released was NBA Live 10 in 2009. Since then there has been nothing but problems as they moved development from one studio to another, and cancelled the next iteration every time since.
It sounds like they have sorted out all their problems and are intent on launching the next iteration this year. As for when it might be officially unveiled, there have been teases on twitter and facebook recently that seem to imply an imminent showing, perhaps at Microsoft’s event for the next Xbox. If you’re an NBA fan who has been hoping for a good NBA Live game for what seems like an absurd number of years now, 2013 might be the charm. The Verge also notes a recent rumor that the game might include an Ultimate Team mode, which is another thing to possibly look forward to.
