EKWB Outs Water-Blocks for EVGA SR-X and MSI R7970 Lightning
Slovenian PC water-cooling specialist EK Water Blocks (EKWB) launched a trio of products, the EK-FB KIT SR-X Nickel and EK-FB KIT SR-X Nickel+Acetal water block sets for EVGA SR-X dual-LGA2011 motherboard, and the FC-R7970 LTG for MSI Radeon HD 7970 Lightning graphics card.
Slovenian PC water-cooling specialist EK Water Blocks (EKWB) launched a trio of products, the EK-FB KIT SR-X Nickel and EK-FB KIT SR-X Nickel+Acetal water block sets for EVGA SR-X dual-LGA2011 motherboard, and the FC-7970 LTG for MSI Radeon HD 7970 Lightning graphics card.
The EK-FB KIT SR-X Nickel+Acetal, pictured above, is a set of three water blocks designed for EVGA's Super Record X (SR-X) dual socket LGA2011 enthusiast motherboard. The set consists of two blocks for the CPU VRM areas of the two CPU sockets, and a larger block covering the Intel C606 PCH and PLX PEX8784 PCIe bridge chip. The primary material of the blocks is nickel-plated copper, with acetal-made tops.
The EK-FB KIT SR-X Nickel is mostly identical to its sibling, with the exception of the tops of the blocks, which are made of clear acrylic with a frosted finish. The transparent tops reveal a simple single coolant channel design for all three blocks, which is U-shaped on the PCH block, and slightly curved on the VRM blocks. Both blocks support standard G1/4 threads for fittings (not included).
The FC-7970 LTG, on the other hand, is a graphics card water-block, which we've been tracking since July, which is specially designed for MSI Radeon HD 7970 Lightning graphics card. The card uses MSI's in-house design PCB, and as such is incompatible with blocks designed for AMD reference design PCBs. The block's primary material is nickel-plated copper, with an acetal top that has a dash of aluminum.
The underside of the FC-7970 LTG reveals that the coolant channel passes over the GPU, memory, and VRM areas. Often, VGA water block designers don't extend the channel to the VRM area, and simply connect it to the main chamber with the common metal slab. At least EKWB claims that the channel flows directly over the VRM area. The base of the block is given a mirror-finish at its GPU, memory, and VRM contact points.
The FC7970 LTG supports EKWB's in-house FC-Link fittings, which makes it easy to pumb-out tubings for standalone and multi-graphics card setups. It features common G1/4 threads.
The EK-FB KIT SR-X Nickel is priced at 134.95€ (S$205), the EK-FB KIT SR-X Nickel+Acetal at 129.95€ (S$197.5), and the FC7970 LTG at 114.95€ (S$174.5).
