EVGA has a single Z77 board, the FTW ("for the win"), targeting the high-end consumer base with 4-way SLI/CrossfireX capabilities and a top notch VRM design. We will put it through its paces and see if it performs up to par with the competition. An examination of the Z77 FTW will show whether or not EVGA has what it takes to be an overclocker's dream board.

California-based EVGA are known for their graphics cards; however they also have a small motherboard unit as well. It's not surprising that they only make a few models, as that is how it has always been with their motherboards; however with Z77, we see only one motherboard.  To see just one motherboard and in the high-end segment (to us) seems fairly odd. The fact that there is only one Z77 from EVGA infer the lack of resources for their motherboard unit, and that isn't the first time a lack of resources have affected their motherboard unit.

During the X58 era, EVGA had one of the best motherboard teams, and among some of the top notch engineers was VR-Zone's very own Shamino (Peter).  Peter and the team went on to put together one of the best X58 boards ever, the X58 Classified.  Even so, EVGA continued to concentrate heavily on graphics card, and eventually the legendary motherboard team disbanded because they felt that their work was not given their justly rewards (or so the story goes).

Despite losing out on quality employees during the X58 era, EVGA kept most of the virtues that made the X58 Classified so famous, including top notch VRMs, high quality hardware enhancements, and a bunch of small but cool overclocking features. They also have a couple overclockers on their crew, including the legendary Kingpin (Vince) and Tin (Ilya).
