DDR2 Memory has gone full blast rcently as AMD moves to AM2 and Intel’s upcoming Conroe CPU picking up a huge amount of attention. We compare 3 pairs of High-speed DDR2 Memory to find the creme of the crop!
The 3 pairs of Premium DDR2 Memory: Corsair CM2X1024-8500C5, CM2X1024-6400C3, and GSkill F2-8500PHU2-2GBHZ.
The 2 x 1GB Corsair CM2X1024-8500C5 is rated at DDR2 1066MHz with CAS Latency timings 5-5-5-15.
The 2 x 1GB Corsair CM2X1024-6400C3 is rated at DDR2 800MHz with CAS Latency timings 3-3-3-5.
The 2 x 1GB GSkill F2-8500PHU2-2GBHZ is rated at DDR2 1066MHz with CAS Latency timings 4-4-4-5. All 3 pairs are rated to run at 2.2v to 2.3v Memory Voltage.
The 2 pairs of Corsair Memory are EPP Enhanced modules.
We tested them on a AMD AM2 platform, watercooled at the CPU, FX62.
|AMD AM2 FX62|
|Motherboard||ASUS M2N32 SLI|
|RAM||Corsair CM2X1024-8500C5||Corsair CM2X1024-6400C3||GSkill F2-8500PHU2-2GBHZ|
|PSU||SilverStone ZEUS ST75ZF|
|HDD||Hitachi DeskStar 7200RPM/8MB SATA|
The FX62 had it’s heatspreader removed to improve thermal transfer:
I used a modified Vostok water-cooling kit to cool the CPU.
I also voltage modified the ASUS M2N32 SLI Motherboard at the Memory voltage so as to see how far I can push these Memory. The simple pencil modification can be read here.
