Final Fantasy III is coming to the Ouya Android console in high-definition, making up one of the launch titles for the much-anticipated $99 gaming system.

The game originally launched in Japan in 1990 and was remade for the Nintendo DS in 2006, but it has never been available on a normal console in other countries, making it an attractive title for Ouya's initial line-up.

It is not yet clear if this is a simple port of the recently-released Android version of the game, which also touts improved graphics, but things will likely need to be changed to make it look and play well on a large TV screen and offer controller support.

The Ouya console has won tremendous support on Kickstarter, with 45,608 backers and over $5.8 million pledged at the time of writing, over six times the original goal.

A price for Final Fantasy III on Ouya has yet to be decided, but a free demo will be provided.
