Yesterday, Square Enix unveiled footage for their latest entry in the Final Fantasy franchise. Final Fantasy XV was originally touted to be a PS4 exclusive, based on the appearance during Sony’s conference, however, Square Enix have refuted those claims saying it will be on both PS4 and Xbox One.
At a press conference for Square Enix today, Shinji Hashimoto confirmed the game is being developed with “Direct X 11” and with that unified API, their upcoming games will be easily portable to both consoles. Hashimoto said, “With [Direct X 11] it’s possible to port the title to various hardware. Following yesterday’s announcement we would like to announce that we are porting Final Fantasy XV to Xbox One as well.”
However, the game is not scheduled for be released in 2013 but will be coming out during Square Enix’s next financial year. This could mean we would see the game any time between January and March 31st of 2014. It’s interesting seeing this development for both Xbox One and Playstation 4 as Final Fantasy XV was originally announced as a PlayStation 3 exclusive. Also considering the Xbox One will be heavily delayed in Asian regions, this could mean a sharp spike in PS4 sales, depending on Square Enix’s release window.
