Firefly V50S looks like a certain Korean bestseller, but is not priced like it
Firefly has annouced its Firefly V50S, a 5" smartphone intended to take on the high-end market competition.
Following the trend with Chinese manufacturers flooding the market with high-end but cheap smartphones, Firefly has officially joined in the fray with its official announcement of the Firefly V50S, a relatively high-end smartphone packing a quad-core processor and Full-HD display.
While the V50S does not come with bleeding-edge hardware, it still boasts a rather impressive 5-inch 1080p (Full-HD, 441ppi) display with a quad-core Mediatek MT6589 processor, a modest 16GB storage and Android 4.2.1. Interestingly though, Firefly has decided to pack just 1GB of RAM in its basic model, only half of what high-end smartphones usually come with. Its camera also doesn't do much to impress – at 8 megapixels, its a lot lesser than the 13 megapixel cameras most Chinese smartphones are already equipped with.
While the Firefly V50S is available now with a rather low price tag of 1499 yuan (S$306/US$244), for just a little more, one could wait for other Chinese companies (read: Xiaomi) to launch their better-speced smartphones to get a better deal.
