RV740 4 First RV740 512MB GDDR5 Card Tested

It looks like Guru3D is lucky enough to get hold of a protoype RV740 card which is slated for launch in May. It seems like what they are having is a Radeon HD 4770 instead of a HD 4750 as it comes with 512MB of GDDR5 memories. Judging from the gaming benchmarks scores, RV740 (HD4770) performance consistenly lies between HD 4830 and HD 4850. RV740 (HD4770) will meet head on with GeForce GTS 240 with pricing bracket at US$100-120 range. RV740 (HD4750) will pit against the GeForce 9600 GT at US$80-99 range.

It looks like Guru3D is lucky enough to get hold of a protoype RV740 card which is slated for launch in May. We have already told you about 40nm RV740 back in December and recently, we also let you know there are 2 versions of RV740; 1GB DDR3 and 512MB GDDR5 memories. The DDR3 variant is known as Radeon HD 4750 while the GDDR5 variant is known as Radeon HD 4770.

It seems like what they are having is a Radeon HD 4770 instead of a HD 4750 as it comes with 512MB of GDDR5 memories. Since it is just an engineering sample, the core clock frequency stood at 650MHz so probably a A11 stepping silicon. The final silicon should be A12 or A13 depending on how good the yield is and probably we can see higher clocks from RV740 final silicon.
