At this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, attendees at the Warner Bros./Legendary Pictures panel were given quite a surprise with the first-ever teaser trailer for the upcoming World of Warcraft movie.
The teaser apparently featured a brief battle between a warrior in full battle armor takes on a huge, hulking Orc–a skirmish that ends in a grisly and barbaric finish for our would-be adventurer.
A writer from io9 saw the whole thing, and captured the scenes with a recent post:
“The footage showcased an alien-looking landscape full of rocky outcroppings, where a sweaty unshaven figure in armor is drinking water from a leather pouch.
“There’s a cage with rocks in it, a squeaking noise, green lightning in the sky. The man tosses the water pouch on the ground, and draws his sword with a loud ringing sound. He takes a shield from an armored skeleton, and bangs his sword against it.
“And then you see the massive arm of a… creature… heading towards him. We glimpse the green skin and some of the armor, and then finally we get an extreme closeup of the orc as it raises its axe and brings it down onto the man’s head.”
Legendary Pictures currently hasn’t released any official footage at this time, and hopefully we’ll see the debut teaser–and other trailers–hit the web in the coming months.
Since being announced all the way back in 2006, Blizzard’s Warcraft film adaptation has had a few big names attached to it–Sam Raimi had signed on but dropped out later, claiming that Blizzard had “mismanaged” the movie.
After the clip ran its course, director Duncan Jones took the stage to talk about the upcoming film and said that he was quite excited about the opportunity of creating an engaging theatrical experience where viewers “delve into fantasy”.
Jones also revealed that the World of Warcraft movie begins filming in early 2014 and is expected to release sometime in 2016.
