Former has been sentenced to a 46 month prison term for copyright infringements between 2005 and 2008.

The now 33-year-old operator of allegedly profited heavily from his torrent website for several years.  According to the German court that found Jens R guilty, he made several thousand euros a month over a span of about four years. 

Although his sentence is still not yet finalized, Jens R has been taken into custody because the court believes he is a flight risk., however, is currently active, and there are no words as to when or if it’ll be shut down in light of the news.

Many governments around the world are deploying various policies to lessen online piracy.  In the U.S., some policy makers are pushing for Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act, but it is believed that the Obama administration will veto the bill when it hits President Obama’s desk.

Like many other proposed policies in the past, CISPA is controversial in that it is believed by many to be ‘unbalanced.’  While protection of intellectual properties will be strengthened, consumer rights and privacy seemingly go south.
