This year is the year for 3D TVs and virtually all display manufacturers are ramping up the time frame to bring their 3D HDTV models to the retail stores. But content has yet to catch up with the products, as various sources have reported that approximately twenty 3D Blu-ray movies would be available by the end of this year. Well, unless you owned this Fujifilm camera, which you could at least utilize more of the 3D TV you are intending to buy or have bought recently.
At the recent Great Electronics Show in Singapore (by Audio House), Fujifilm was one of the vendors who showcased their 3D camera that allow the capture and playback of 3D videos.
The Fujifilm FinePix REAL 3D W1 was announced in July last year, but according to the manufacturer, the product was only available in Dec 2009/Jan 2010. We only saw the 3D camera at the Fujifilm’s booth at the recent Great Electronics Show at Suntec City two weeks ago.
The camera is fairly heavy at 260g compared to some compact cameras that weigh approximately 120g. Controls can be confusing as there are many buttons on both sides of the 2.8-inch display. You can choose to record still images and videos in 3D as well as 2D.
Best of all, you can playback 3D images and videos on 3D HDTVs. You can also print out photos of the 3D images, but you would need special media and printer to do so. In terms of 3D video quality on TV, we noticed slight ghosting of the subjects especially if they are moving. Regardless, the overall experience isn’t too bad. If you want to capture home videos to show your friends on the 3D TV, the Fujifilm W1 is retailing at S$899.
