Key announcements made at the event today include the new fēnix® 5 line of multisport GPS watches and the company’s next-generation Garmin Drive 2017 Portable Navigation Devices (PNDs).

The new wearables – fēnix 5, fēnix 5S and fēnix 5X, have been designed with adventurers of all sizes in mind. The fēnix 5S at 42mm is aimed at users with small wrists, featuring a sleeker design compared to previous models, while offering complete functionality. The fēnix 5X, which measures at 51mm, comes preloaded with wrist-based mapping, while the compact fēnix 5 (47mm) is a feature-packed watch ready to take on any adventure. All the 5 new watches are 24/7 wearable with extended battery life, daily activity tracking, Garmin Elevate wrist heart rate technology, and other connected features. Thanks to the new QuickFit bands, users will now be able to switch between leather and metal accessory bands to sporty silicone in seconds, without having to use any tools whatsoever.

The fēnix 5 is claimed to deliver up to two weeks of battery life in smartwatch mode and 24 hours in GPS mode. The fēnix 5X offers up to 12 days of battery life in smartwatch mode and 20 hours in GPS mode. The fēnix 5S lasts up to eight days in smartwatch mode and up to 13 hours in GPS mode. To extend battery life further, users can use the UltraTrac power saver mode. All models are set go on sale in the first quarter of 2017.

Garmin also announced the addition of several new apps, data fields and watch faces on its Connect IQ Store from companies such as Uber, Trek, GU and Nuun. The Connect IQ Store, which came into existence only two years back, has seen more than 20 million downloads so far on the 3 million+ compatible devices that have shipped around the world.

The company updated its Garmin Drive product line as well.
