1 m GCN HD 7000M GPUs release in Q2

While AMD's entry-level and mid-range HD 7000M GPUs upto HD 7600M are nothing but rebrands and refreshes from the HD 6000M family, HD 7700M and up  are expected to be true next-gen parts based on 28nm GCN GPUs. These GCN mobile GPUs will release in Q2 2012.

Mobile GCN GPUs are likely to be based on Pitcairn and Cape Verde, filling in HD 7700M, HD 7800M and HD 7900M. It is not known whether Tahiti will make the mobile line-up, as in the recent past the top flagship chip for both NVIDIA and AMD has been reserved for desktops only. As expected, these GPUs will bring all the new features introduced with HD 7970 to notebooks.

NVIDIA has followed a similar strategy for its lower end GeForce 600M parts. Notebooks powered by higher end GTX 600M GPUs were glimpsed at CES 2012, and are also set to debut in Q2 2012. Q2 2012 brings Intel's Ivy Bridge and possibly AMD's Trinity platforms to the notebook, to co-incide with next-gen GPU families.
