GeForce 8800 Series PCIe Issues

In addition to having huge driver problems, it looks like G80 is rife with PCIe troubled to boot. Or to not boot as the case may be. In DX9. Without PCI SIG approval. There are reports of 8800s not working in several PCIe 8x slots. Toss in that the PCIe SIG compatibility list shows no sign of an 8800 anywhere and you have a problem. People familiar with the verification process tell me that there were more than enough plugfests for NV to get certification, but they either didn’t try or failed. Judging from the massive compatibility problems reported to me, I would put my money on failure.
