GeForce GTX 295 Previews Out - NV Approved Benchmarks Only
As you can see that a slew of GeForce GTX 295 previews are out today, some 20 days before its official launch at CES next month. Certainly, it is a tried and proven method employed by the red camp previously. The main motive is to deter people from purchasing the HD 4870 X2 this Christmas and wait for their GTX 295 card instead. Apparently, the previews now are restricted to certain benchmarks that Nvidia wants the reviewers to test only. No card for you if you don't follow their rules :) Probably, those are the ones that offer the best performance advantage over the 4870 X2 but you will get a clearer picture when the NDA is officially lifted on Jan 8th.

Nvidia decided to send the AIC partners an email to explaining the move :Just a heads up, we’ve decided to do a few “sneak peek” press previews of GTX 295 ahead of launch on Jan 8th. These previews are live today. Information in the previews will include base product specs as well as some limited performance benchmarks on top holiday games. Information in the press reviews can be treated as public.
Any information beyond the press preview articles should continue to be treated under strict NDA until launch on January 8th. Please continue to treat January 8th as the embargo for GTX 295 press releases, website information, product reviews, and other public marketing material and communication.
Note that we will still have a full round of press reviews on January 8th with complete benchmarks and in-depth product analysis.

NV are launching two 470mm2 (or something like that) GPUs with two expensive PCBs at $499. AMD has a X2 with two 256mm2 GPUs on one expensive PCB at $499. It's been at that price ever since they launched it. Which one of the two is more likely to have better margins and lower the prices?
