CD Projekt RED’s final chapter in the epic Geralt of Rivia saga looks to be one of the major releases for the next-gen era. It makes incredible use of the raw power of both consoles, showcasing amazing fidelity and reveals a sprawling fantasy world in real-time, complete with a teeming civilization wrapped in the myth and mayhem of a medieval fantasy land.

To highlight the impressive graphical capabilities while setting the overall grim tone for the game and shedding light on Geralt’s character in the process, the developers have released a brand new cinematic trailer for The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt.

The trailer itself shows that Geralt–whose hands have slayed dozens of men in his life–isn’t your average hero and knows that the tide of evil often sweeps up the just and unjust alike. His occupation as a monster-slayer, however, gives him the uncanny ability to recognize his prey, and as such he metes out his own brand of brutal justice not necessarily to save an innocent life, but to slay monsters.

And sometimes monsters don’t have to misshapen, hulking beasts: sometimes monsters look like you and I–a fact that Geralt of Rivia knows all too well.

The third and final title in the franchise chronicles a realm that’s been ravaged by the fiery gauntlet of war, and nearly everything–and everyone–has burned in the wake of the Nilfgaardian Empire: whole towns and kingdoms have been devastated, and the world is on the brink of total destruction.

Born in the heart of chaos and fury, a dark and mysterious mythical force known only as “The Wild Hunt” is awakened, and threatens to wreak havoc on the one thing that Geralt of Rivia holds dear.

With the realm in flames and the cold steel machine of the Nilfgaardian Empire looming over all, Geralt must not only face the remnants of a world in ruins–trying to put the pieces of broken lives back together–but he must face the ultimate evil that eventually culminates into the end of his legendary tale.

The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt is slated to release in 2014 for Xbox One and PlayStation 3. For more information please visit the game’s official website.
