minecraft Get ready Minecraft fans 1.5 Redstone coming soon

In the world where gamers look for incredible graphics, the idea that an 8bit game where you create worlds made up of blocks is a game that you would never think would be popular.  Well, it turns out Minecraft is just that type of game, but despite the lack of modern day eye candy, it is extremely popular, to the point it has made its creator a multi-millionaire.

When Minecraft first broke onto the gaming scene not many thought it would amount to much, but it turns out that the simple game of using blocks to create insanely complex or simple (depending on your preference) worlds took off like wildfire. The game has been so successful that it has made its creator, Markus "Notch" Persson a very, very, wealthy man.  Therefore, by extension, it has made his company Mojang, co-founded with Carl Manneh and Jakob Porser, a large force in the gaming world.

It's growth and popularity is all the more incredible given that it didn't officially launch to gamers until 2011, but since that time Persson and Mojang have continued to update and improve the game.

The newest update, which will bring the game to version 1.5, is codenamed Redstone and is apparently going to come with a large laundry list of improvements and additions.

In the improvements column we have:

  • changes to the gaming engine
  • rendering optimizations
  • mobs will include an improved UI
  • mobs will no longer be able to walk over rails unless they are after you
  • improved inventory system
  • death messages now include cause of death, items used to kill you, and who did the dirty deed
  • bug fixes… and more bug fixes

Now for the goodies – the new stuff being added to the game:

  • new texture packs
  • the game will now allow animated texture packs
  • a scoreboard system to track kills, deaths, or commands
  • Added items include

    • Redstone Comparator
    • Hopper
    • Dropper
    • Daylight sensor
    • Trapped chest
    • Weighted pressure plate
    • Activator rail
    • Detector rail
    • Minecart with TNT
    • and more

Word is that the update should hit in a couple of weeks, so all you Minecrafters out there might want to mark your calendars for the days off needed – just to be safe.
