Taiwanese component manufacturer Gigabyte is preparing to
enter the region’s mobile phone market. This announcement was made at
Gigabyte’s 20th anniversary event in Dubai, which took place yesterday.
Speaking at the event, Mohammad Bahrololoum, product director at Golden Systems
Electronics (Gigabyte’s exclusive distributor here) said: “Gigabyte
will enter the highly competitive mobile phone market with a range of models
in the next few months”. Product specifications and prices were not disclosed
at the event, however engineering samples were shown.

Gigabyte spent the second half of its birthday seminar launching
a new line of ‘Napa’ based notebooks, which make use of Intel’s
dual-core ‘Yonah’ CPUs and its 945 series chipsets. 4 different laptop models were launched, including the W551N,
W551U, W451U and W251U. The W551N is a desktop replacement model that targets
users with high-performance requirements and thus sports a dedicated nVidia
GPU. The
models are expected to land in retail outlets by the month’s end.

Gigabyte spent the second half of its birthday seminar launching
a new line of ‘Napa’ based notebooks, which make use of Intel’s
dual-core ‘Yonah’ CPUs and its 945 series chipsets. “Gigabyte
has persistently dedicated itself to providing consumers with high performance,
high quality products in a stylish package,” explained Louis Yu, sales

Four different laptop models were launched, including the W551N,

The W451U and W251U target users in need of portability, with the former model
offering a 14.1” LCD screen and a weight of 2.05kg compared to the latter’s
12.1” LCD and 1.72kg weight.

Retail prices for these new offerings were not disclosed. The
models are expected to land in retail outlets by the month’s end.
