Gigabyte’s new H81 motherboard series forms the manufacturer’s entry-level offering for Haswell processors.
Gigabyte has announced the enthusiast-level Z87 motherboard line earlier this week, and yesterday it launched the H81 series that is targeted at the entry-level segment. The H81 chipset features two SATA 6 Gbps ports, two USB 3.0 ports, one PCIe 2.0 x16 from the CPU and six PCIe 2.0 slots from the chipset. Gigabyte will include a USB hub on some models to take the total number of USB 3.0 ports to six.
These boards come with Gigabyte’s Ultra Durable 4 technology, which includes features like a backup BIOS in an event the main BIOS gets affected. Also included is UEFI DualBIOS, which offers users a fully customizable user interface from which they can adjust overclocking settings in real-time. DualBIOS comes with a Dashboard Mode in which users will be able to see temperatures and voltages for the motherboard, CPU and video cards.
The H81 line also includes native 4K support which can be delivered either through HDMI or DisplayPort. Another feature that will benefit users is the electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection, which adds a protection filter to the LAN and USB ports that makes them withstand high electrostatic discharges.
The H81 series will feature eight motherboards, which come in either micro-ATX or ATX form factor. Four of the boards are available online right now (GA-H81-D3, GA-H81M-S2PV, GA-H81M-S2PH, and GA-H81M-DS2).
