Today we have something fresh and different in our labs, the Gigabyte X79S-UP5-WiFi. The name of this board is deceiving as it is not based on an X79 Express but on a C606 chipset instead, effectively making it a hybrid between an enthusiast's motherboard and a workstation product. We will be examining its features, speed and capabilities in this review.

 Gigabyte X79S UP5 WiFi Review

The Intel X79 Express platform has already been around for a year now, yet X79 based motherboards were not very popular among enthusiasts. This is because the first few motherboards would not take advantage of the new technologies involved with this chipset, such as PCI-Express 3.0 support, plus each board had a number of issues. Yes, it can support a Xeon processor, SAS drives and ECC RAM, but still we would expect it to be used just like any high-end X79 based board, paired with a good CPU and a normal high speed quad channel DDR-3 kit. We will be examining its features, speed and capabilities in this review.
