A quad-core phone for $170? That ain’t a far-fetched fantasy anymore. Chinese phone maker Gionee launches its newest Smartphone, the CTRL V4. Packing a 4.5-inch display, this Android 4.2 running device is powered by a quad-core SoC and costs only INR 9,999, that’s roughly $170.
It seems like aeons but it has only been two years since the world was introduced to the first dual-core Smartphone, the LG Optimus 2X. Since then, the Smartphone industry has come a long way, with quad-core SoCs, HD displays and later Full HD (1080p) panels, 2 GB of RAM and powerful 13 MP rear cameras, 5 MP front cameras. The Smartphone industry has made leaps and bounds of strides in every way, but all of it was reserved for the ones with butt-loads of cash. Chinese phone makers have however been working really hard to debunk that truth, almost pushing it back as a myth. Say hello to this quality Android 4.2 powered quad-core Smartphone that costs only INR 9,999 or about $170.

While the Gionee CTRL V4 might not pack the latest and greatest Smartphone specs, it does pack a lot of punch for a $170 class phone. Yes, we would have wished for a qHD display and 1 GB of RAM, but average users who are purchasing a phone in this price range wouldn’t even be expecting this much in the first place. Android 4.2 Jelly Bean is a novelty most flagship Smartphone hasn’t gotten to taste yet, so a big plus point to Gionee for bringing in the latest OS on board.
The Gionee CTRL V4 will be available in both Black & White and comes with a free bundled 8 GB memory card and a phone case as well.
