Gionee is the latest manufacturer thought to be working on a mini variant of the E6, as evidenced by the spy shots that were leaked online earlier today.
Chinese manufacturer Gionee seems to have turned things around remarkably. In the past, the brand was criticized for making handsets that were lackluster, but the recent E6 is a standout mobile, and has been making waves not only in the Chinese market, but also in India, a market Gionee recently entered. The E6 offers high-end features for just $400, and is sure to sell a lot, both in China and India.
Now it looks like Gionee is making a mini version of the E6, which will be called the E6 mini. It looks like the E6 Mini retains the same design as the E6, which is a good thing. The device features a 4.5-inch 720p screen (1280X720), and includes MediaTek’s MT6589 SoC, which means that it will come with a 1.5 GHz quad-core CPU, the same one used in the E6. The device also comes with 1 GB RAM, 16 GB internal memory, 8 megapixel rear camera along with a 2 megapixel front shooter and is set to come with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. The E6 Mini will also feature Gionee’s custom UI skin, the Amigo UI.
While it is not yet clear as to how much the E6 Mini will cost, it should be targeted at the budget segment and as such is estimated to be around $275. The device should be available sometime next month.
