Google has relaunched Zagat, a dining review and ratings website that it acquired in May last year, and released new apps for both Android and iOS, to help people find the very best of “restaurants and nightspots” by looking at reviews and ratings left behind by other users. In an attempt to make the website more accessible, Google has also removed the need to sign in with a Google+ account and made the service completely free.

The search giant’s location-based dining guide will go up against the immensely popular Yelp, which is integrated into Apple Maps. Dining info is initially available in only Austin, Boston, Chicago, London, Los Angeles, New York City, Philadelphia, San Francisco, and Washington D.C., but Google is hoping to expand to “50 U.S. and international destinations, and cover shopping, hotels and other places of interest” in the coming months.

The mobile app has foregone its $10 price tag and has received quite an attractive new design, which follows the card UI Google has been putting on all its apps lately. New features such as restaurant news, video reviews, curated lists, and restaurant menus have been added, to complement the scores of ratings, reviews, and consumer surveys users will have access to.

Finding the best place to eat in your area is about to become a lot easier, so be sure to leave a review for your favorite restaurant the next time you visit, if you’re lucky enough to be residing in one of those nine cities.
