Google is saying that, despite the announcement of multiple devices running stock Android, the Nexus program will, in fact, live on.

If you’ve been following Android news recently, then you’ll know that Google has announced a Google Edition of both the Galaxy S4 and the HTC One, meaning they will both be sold running stock android directly from the Play Store. At first glance this is all very positive news, but it might raise some concerns about the future of the Nexus program if there are already a couple of high end devices in the wild that are running stock Android.

Worry not, because Sundar Pichai has confirmed at the D11 conference that the Nexus line of devices will continue. His exact quote was that “the goal behind Nexus was to guide the ecosystem. But that will continue as well.” Hopefully that’s enough to quell concerns.

If you’re one of those who don’t seem interested in an S4, an HTC One, or the newly announced Moto X, then you can take solace in the fact that Google is still readying a Nexus device for you that will probably be announced around October. The latest word was that LG was making that one again, but we’ll have to wait for official confirmation to know for sure.
