Google has updated their search app for iOS, including new features and a redesigned interface. Users opening it up today will find the updates built in, without having to redownload anything from the iOS App store.

The update includes a search modification for quicker search suggestions. Google's blog explains, "Autocompletion of search suggestions is significantly faster in this latest version of the app, bringing you search predictions instantly with each letter you type." Users can alternate between several pages with a slide-in panel at the top.

In addition, users will now be able to easily vacillate between Google's various search modes, such as images, places, etc., using a swipeable bar on the bottom on the application. Google has also added a panel of Google services, such as Google+, Gmail and YouTube. Since all of these services are owned by Google, they can all be accessed with a single Google ID. This makes the application a potential one-stop-shop for various needs, including email, video, socializing, calendar, and other common smartphone services.

The image browsing ability has been updated to a full screen mode. Users searching for images will view results in a full panel display, with high definition images loading onto a grid. From there they can be individually viewed.

While many Google services might be underdeveloped, or unpopular, they are maturing all the time. Google IDs are becoming almost magical passports for many varied services. This makes the application a valuable addition to a smartphone, even if it isn't fully ready yet.

The Google search app can be downloaded directly from iOS devices via the App store, or downloaded from iTunes.
