GoPro has released a new app for Android. The app will let you control your action camera via your smartphone, making the already versatile gadget, even more so.
GoPro's line of HD Hero cameras are amazing little gadgets. I've had mine for almost a year now and I absolutely love it. With the ability to film in 1080p and 60fps, it has become the go-to action camera on the market. One of their key features is the versatility enabled by the various gadgets and attachments available for the cameras. GoPro has now seen it fit to release their first digital accessory, an app for smartphones.
A viewfinder is something I've sorely missed
The smartphone app, which you'll find in the Google Play Store under the name "GoPro App", will let you control your camera and all of it's functions remotely. You will need the WiFi backpack attachment on your camera in order to use the app, and on the android end, you're going to need a fairly fast smart phone with ice cream sandwich or higher.
The app will allow you to stream the video output from your camera right to your android screen, as well as manage all of the controls, including image capture, settings and of course, video recording. This is very useful for those of us who don't feel like removing our helmets to check if the camera is recording properly or not.
You'll have full control of the camera in the app
The app is currently compatible with the HD Hero 2 cameras, but will be arriving for the new HD Hero 3 later this month, with the exception of the Black edition, which will become compatible in December.
