GTA V has more pre-orders than CoD: Ghosts and Battlefield 4 combined
There’s no doubt that the Grand Theft Auto series is the biggest video game franchise in the world. For proof, just look at the pre-order numbers for Grand Theft Auto V versus other upcoming titles from established game series.
Grand Theft Auto V on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 has been pre-ordered 2,618,743 (~2.6 million) times. We compared the number against pre-orders for hotly anticipated first-person shooters Battlefield 4 and Call of Duty: Ghosts on not just the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, but also the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One – the number for these eight titles adds up to just approximately 2.0 million units.
It’s not too big a surprise, really. GTA V comes more than five years after the previous game in the series, whereas Call of Duty is an annual thing, and Battlefield series gets a new title every two or three years. The former is a huge update; games in the latter two series are usually incremental updates because of the less development time they receive.
