Thanks to the Guinness Book of World Records we often get to hear about or see some pretty staggering events take place as people continue to be driven by the desire to achieve something never before been done that becomes recognized worldwide. A bunch of students from the Netherlands have added themselves to the list by building a "fully functional" NES controller that is in fact the largest video game controller in the world.

Guiness announces the world's largest video game controller

Students Benjamin Allen, Stephen van't Hof and Michel Verhulst hauled this massive controller to London's Liverpool Street Station where the latest edition of Guiness' World Records 2012 Gamer's Edition was launched. It was there where it received formal recognition as indeed being the largest controller in the world, working out to be 30 times the size of a standard NES controller. It runs dimensions of 366 cm x 159 cm x 51 cm (12ft x 5ft 3 in x 1ft 8 in) and has a weight of 265 pounds!

At that size, it does of course require not one, but two people operate it and apparently it's been built well enough that jumping on any of the buttons is A'okay as well. In terms of build time, the three students were planning the project over a period of five months, then managed to build it in just one (at a grand total cost of £4,000).

Ben said, "This is really a labour of love. We're passionate about gaming and wanted to honour its most iconic device; the NES (Nintendo Entertainment System) joypad. We put our heads together in the pub and decided to create this absurdly large working version! It's such a rush to know we've made history and are being included in the Guinness World Records Gamer's Edition."
