While Nokia has already said it will not go for Android, but Windows Phone 7 instead, hacker Alexey Roslyakov (DrunkDebugger) has managed to replace the Nokia N900's Maemo 5/MeeGo operating system with Google Android 2.3 (Gingerbread).

Hacked Nokia N900 running Google Android 2.3

Windows Mobile 6.5, Windows Phone 7, Android 2.2 and even the latest Android 2.3 mobile operating systems can run successfully on the HTC HD2. And Nokia N900 isn't backing down. The N900 can dual boot Maemo and MeeGo and Android 2.2 (Froyo) too. Recently, a hacker Alexey Roslyakov (aka DrunkDebugger) has managed to implant Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) into the Nokia N900 smartphone.

From the picture, you can tell from the unlock screen of the Nokia N900 that it is indeed running Android 2.3 . According to the hacker, most of the features can be used normally, but not all. At the moment, only the Google Nexus S comes preinstalled with Android 2.3 and Nexus One has yet to get the Android 2.3 update. Ironically, the HTC HD2 and Nokia N900 are the "first" smartphones to have a taste of Gingerbread, though that is via unofficial ROM installation.
