There is a large wide base of copper to take that heat away from
the core and the amply aluminum fins on top do a good job to dissipate the heat.

And so you don’t have the hot air from the GPU circulating in
your casing, it exhausts the heat through a vent at the PCI slot right beside:

This works very efficiently, the fan has smart control in-built
such that the speed of spinning is determined by the temperature, higher when
the GPU is hotter and lower when it’s not. In fact, it doesn’t even start spinning
until I start to run 3D on the card.
