New 2.5-inch and 3.5-inch High Capacity Drives Designed to Harness Low Power, Quiet Acoustics and High Reliability for Storing and Streaming Digital Video Content 24 x 71
2.5-inch CinemaStar C5K750 Family
Designed for continuous operation, the C5K750 is a 2 platter design employing 375gb per platter, spinning at 5,400rpm. With advanced format, the C5K750 has a reduced file size, consumes 0.5 watts (W) at low power idle and 1.5W power during read/write operations. Did anyone mention that they are barely audible 2.3 idle bels, so consumers can enjoy their movies in peace, rather than enjoy the loud whine / spin cycles of their hard drives.
3.5-inch CinemaStar 5K2000 Family
The Cinemastar 5K2000 family employs a 667GB per plater design for up to 2TBs of capacity. Compared to the previous generation of Cinemastar drives, which were only 1TB in capacity, the 5K2000 2TB drives allow users to store on average, 2,000 standard videos, or 500 High Definition Videos.
The new CinemaStar 5K2000 drives are nearly silent at 2.4 bels during operation, drawing only 4.2W or less idle power, and generate less heat, which is all good news when pairing these drives in small form factor type casings. Eg: HTPCs in a mini-itx form factor
“DVR capacity constraints are becoming more acute with the ever increasing appetite for on-demand entertainment and the desire to store – and never delete – recorded TV shows and movies,” said Brendan Collins, vice president of Product Marketing, Hitachi GST.
The CinemaStar 5K2000 and C5K750 families are now shipping to customers worldwide.
With Audio-Visual product lines from hard drive manufacturers toeing the lines between affordability and reliability, and considering the competitive pricepoints of Hitachi GSTs 7200rpm drives vis a vis its competitors’ offerings, one cannot help but wonder how much more affordable will Hitachi GSTs new Cinemastar drives be, if they ever reach our shores.
