With Intel’s Next Unit of Computing — or NUC — trying to steal the spotlight as the ultra-small form factor desktop PC, it’s important to remember that there’s also another competitor in the space: the Chromebox.
HP’s Chromebook for the desktop advertises itself, like Intel’s NUC, as fanless but there’s one problem: it’s not. FanlessTech got their hands on one of HP’s “fanless” Chromeboxes, and, surprisingly the device has a fan. It’s even in the disassembly instructions provided by HP.
But considering that the Chromebox has a Celeron 2955U has a TDP of 15W, it would be surprising if the unit truly was fanless.
