The Huawei Rongyao comes with Android 4.0, and keeps the ICS system design without much customization. The lock screen does manage to show some individuality though, with its impressive circular lock dial.

Huawei Rongyao Special Features

The special features as seen above consist of sharing pictures in a secret social network which users can login to with their QQ account, and the phone is able to speedily upload and share photos.

Unlike with the Rongyao, Huawei put great effort into customizing the UI of the Ascend D1. The Ascend has an enticing 3D desktop which users can flip around using the virtual buttons below the screen.

Looking at real pictures shows us that the Rongyao performs better than the Ascend under low-light conditions, producing a brighter picture, and also has more realistic coloring in its photos.

Finally, let us compare the processors of the two models.

HiSilicon K3V2 Quad-core Processor

The Rongyao uses a K3V2 clocked at 1.4 GHz, which utilizes low power consumption technology and provides 32*2 memory channels. The GPU of this model utilizes a 16 core GPU with 32-bit rendering. This model also provides a logic unit for decompressing video, making playback of RMVB and other video files a breeze.

Texas Instruments OMAP4460 Architecture Diagram

The Ascend D1 doesn’t opt for a Chinese processor and instead utilizes the dual-core OMAP4460 from Texas Instruments. This processor is fabricated at 45nm and is an upgrade to the OMAP4430. It brings the frequency of the Cortex-A9 to 1.5GHz, and it also integrates two Cortex-M3 cores for more efficient processing of time-critical processes and responsive multitasking. The integrated PowerVR SGX540 graphics accelerator does pretty good at running 3D games and 3D desktop effects. Although not quite as fast as its quadcore competitor, the Ascend still scores an impressive 7000 with the AnTuTu benchmarking app.

Conclusion

After comparing the similarly priced Huawei Rongyao and Huawei Ascend D1, it can be said that the exterior of both models are quite similar, and the main basis for comparison arises from the UI and usability of the two phones.

The Rongyao, while keeping the original ICS UI design, focuses more on usability, whereas the Ascend D1 focuses on providing a custom UI and 3D graphics. Both phones take great photos, but the Rongyao outdoes the Ascend in picture taking quality somewhat. The Rongyao’s ability to change batteries is also an attractive feature which is absent in the Ascend.

In conclusion, the Huawei Rongyao Quadcore is a great choice for users who enjoy watching high quality video and playing action packed games, while users who appreciate 3D desktops and attractive UIs would probably prefer the Ascend D1.
