I-O Data is preparing the DVDP-U8S, an external 8X DVD drive, for release. Measuring 137 x 154 x 20mm and weighing 340g, the DVDP-U8S can read DVDs at speeds of up to 8x (CDs at 24x) and has an USB 2.0 port for connection to external devices. Backed by a one year warranty, it can be purchased from authorized resellers and e-tailers in Japan at a MSRP of USD 87 end February.
