Intel has partnered with Acer, HP, Lenovo, Samsung and more to unveil a slew of new tablet computers running Windows 8 based on Intel processors, such as the new “Clover Trail” Atom CPU.

The latest tablets will compete with Apple's iPad and other ARM equivalents, but have the benefit of Intel's processor experience, for better computing performance, even on Windows 8, and longer battery life.

The Intel Atom Processor Z2760, codenamed Clover Trail, is extremely thin and light, making it particularly useful for tablet computers. It has dual-cores with Hyperthreading, and touts an enhanced battery life of more than three weeks of connected standby and over 10 hours of local high-definition video playback.

Performance is enhanced by Intel Turbo Boost Technology and Intel Hyperthreading Technology, both of which purportedly improves the multitasking capability of devices running Intel processors.

Security is also augmented by Secure Boot, Platform Trust Technology, and, in the case of Intel Core vPro processors, Enhanced Intel Anti-Theft Technology, Secure Key, OS Guard, Enhanced Identity Protection Technology, and Trusted Execution Technology, making Intel-powered devices a lot more desirable for the enterprise market.

The initial line-up of supporters of the Intel technology include Acer, Asus, Dell, Fujitsu, Lenovo, LG, Samsung and ZTE, though likely many more will be signing up in the months to come.

“This is just the beginning of Intel’s effort in the tablet market, and our goal is to deliver products that fit the spectrum of evolving needs of both consumers and business users without compromising on compatibility, experience or battery life,” said Erik Reid, GM of Application Processor Platforms for Intel’s Mobile and Communications Group. “When people or corporations buy a device with Intel Inside, they’re getting the best of Windows 8 features with a computing experience that just works.”
