Intel backs Alliance for Wireless Power, Qi gets increased competition
Chip maker Intel has decided to back Alliance for Wireless Power (A4WP) over Qi, a new powerful board member joins the likes of Samsung, Qualcomm and many others.
The Alliance for Wireless Power announced recently that they have added yet another powerful member to their prestigious board. “Intel believes the A4WP specification, particularly the use of near-field magnetic resonance technology, can provide a compelling consumer experience and enable new usage models that make device charging almost automatic. In joining A4WP, we look forward to working alongside other member companies and contributing to standards that help fuel an ecosystem of innovative solutions capable of simultaneously charging a range of devices, from low-power accessories to smartphones, tablets and Ultrabooks.”-Intel
The A4WP is working on a near-magnetic field resonance technology which will allow charging pods to charge multiple devices placed near at simultaneously, definitely a step up from the current Qi wireless charging mats eh. Intel has joined the board hoping to further develop a Wireless Charging Technology (WCT) whose ultimate realization would be that someday our Smartphones and tablets automatically begin charging when placed close to a laptop. Pretty neat huh! We sure hope to see that day come to light.
