We ran all the tests on one of the best Intel 955X chipset motherboards
out there, the Asus P5WD2 Premium.

We compared the performance of the Dual Core Extreme Edition with last generation’s
heavy weight, the Intel Pentium 4 Extreme Edition 3.73Ghz.

The majority of the applications in the market presently are
single-threaded, especially the games out there. As the Pentium 4 3.73Ghz runs
at a significantly higher front-side bus speed of 1066MHz compared to the 800MHz
of the Pentium Extreme Edition 840, we can expect the 3.73 to win in some single-thread/single-task
situations. Due to the higher bus speeds, it also runs the DDR2 memory at a
higher speed with default settings:

446MHz Memory Speed on the Pentium 4 3.73Ghz…

Compared to the 404Mhz on the Pentium Extreme Edition 840

It is great that we can run these speeds at rather fast timings with the Corsair
Low Latency 5400UL.

Let’s take a look at some gaming benchmarks…
