Intel Corei3.png Intel prepping three new Core i3s for Q3

It was only a few days ago that Intel added new additions to its Sandy Bridge series of CPUs, but it seems like we can expect even more models within the next three months or so. None of the new CPUs are going to break new ground in terms of performance, but at least a couple of the models are a bit different.

It was only a few days ago that Intel added new additions to its Sandy Bridge series of CPUs, but it seems like we can expect even more models within the next three months or so. None of the new CPUs are going to break new ground in terms of performance, but at least a couple of the models are a bit different.

The first new model is a simple performance bump and it's called the Core i3-2130 and it's 100MHz faster than the Core i3-2120 at 3.4GHz. It's said to retail for $138 when it arrives. Next we have the Core i3-2125 and if you recall, the just launched Core i3-2105 got boost to its execution unit count and the Core i3-2125 gets exactly the same boost, or in other words, it's another Intel HD Graphics 3000 IGP sporting Core i3. The IGP should have the same clock speeds as the one in the Core i3-2105, although the actual CPU is clocked faster at 3.3GHz, the same speed as the current Core i3-2120. No word on pricing on this model as yet.

Finally we have a 35W TDP part in the shape of the Core i3-2120T, although not much was supplied in terms of specifications, but we'd assume this CPU will also get a 100MHz performance bump up to 2.6GHz. It's expected to retail for $127, which is the same price that the current Core i3-2100T is retailing for.

Intel's move to adding HD 3000 graphics to more and more desktop CPUs is starting to look like an answer to AMD's upcoming APUs and we have a feeling that Intel is concerned that its own IGP is going to lose this battle, badly. The question is, can AMD deliver enough CPU performance in this market space, as if the company managed to pull this off, it might very well have a mainstream winner on its hands.
