Intel reorganized its corporate structure, introducing new businesses focused on mobile electronics, business and the home and eliminating a money-losing group centered on communications. Intel divided its business lines into five distinct product groups, including two new segments in which it hopes to make inroads this year — digital health care and worldwide distribution. Intel’s flash memory and cell phone chips will be included in a mobility group, which also encompasses Intel’s Centrino brand of notebook computer chips. The digital enterprise group will include networking products, and other computing technologies designed for business, and the digital home group will develop products for consumer electronics and living room entertainment. The digital health group will explore new opportunities for Intel’s microprocessors in healthcare research and personal health. A “channel products group” will combine existing organizations into a central operation for selling products into local markets.
