Intel plans to begin shipping the 945PL discrete chipset for its dual-core Pentium 4 platform in September of this year, with the part targeting the mainstream market. The discrete 945PL chipset will support 800/533 MHz FSB speeds and have a dual-channel DDR2 memory controller. Samples of the 954PL will be delivered to motherboard makers either at the end of this month or early in August. Samples of the integrated 945GZ chipset for the dual-core Celeron D platform will also be sent out about the same time, though mass production of the 945GZ is not expected until the end of the year, or early next year.
