Intel Valleyview 2 clock speeds and more unveiled
We've already unveiled a lot of details about Intel's Valleyview 2 Atom core which will be part of the Bay Trail SoC and today we can reveal the clock speeds and a few more details about this upcoming Atom core. We've also got details on the TDP, graphics clock and a few other details to share, so click on through for all the gory details.
Let's start with clock speeds, the standard SKU will be clocked at up to 1.9GHz, but as is the case, there should be a few different models here, but as far as we're aware this is what Intel is targeting the quad core models to be clocked at. At this speed they should hit a TDP of around 10W, i.e. the same as the current D2700 desktop Atom processor which is a dual core, Hyper Threaded part. The graphics core should be clocked at up to 667MHz, slightly faster than the D2700, but only at about half the speed of an Ivy Bridge graphics core which Valleyview 2 is claimed to be incorporating.
As for the SKU targeting battery powered devices, we're looking at a clock speed of up to 1.5GHz and this will be a dual core only part. However, Intel has managed to reduce the TDP to a mere 3W or there about, i.e. lower than the current Atom N2600 mobile part. The graphics clock here will be a mere 350MHz, or 50MHz slower than the Atom N2600 or the same as Intel's upcoming Ultrabook Ivy Bridge processors at their lowest GPU clock speed.
The standard SKU or Type 3 as Intel calls it will measure 27x25mm whereas the battery powered SKU or Type 4 will come in at a mere 17x17mm and this is also part of the reason why it lacks some of the features of the Type 3 SKU. Intel will also offer extended temperature versions of the Type 3 SKU, but these won't be able to use some components like the integrated Gigabit MAC, as Intel doesn't have a suitable PHY that works in extended temperature environments and as such a PCI Express Ethernet chip would have to be used.
Sadly we haven't managed to dig out any more details with regards to any consumer equivalent chip, but we'd dare to guess that there will be a Type 1 and Type 2 SKU hiding somewhere as well, but as to what these are, we simply don't know.
