Three new features have been announced: greater AirPlay capabilities, support for iAd full screen banners, and the ability to track your online video content using HTTP Live Streaming Statistics.

Developers will find the new AirPlay update particularly useful as video content from third-party apps and websites can now be streamed from iOS devices for viewing on widescreen TVs via an Apple TV – previously, the AirPlay feature only allowed video streaming from Apple’s built-in apps.

iPad owners will also find the new update interesting due to the addition of new Multi-Touch gestures which will allow users to “use four or five fingers to pinch to the Home Screen; swipe up to reveal the multitasking bar; and swipe left or right between apps”.

In addition to this, it has been confirmed that the Personal Hotspot feature, first seen in Verizon’s CDMA iPhone 4, will be making its way to the GSM variants of the iPhone as well, subject to carrier support.

However, owners of the iPhone 3G will not be able to enjoy the above features as the iOS 4.3 beta is not available for the device, which is understandable given the ongoing debacle regarding slow performance on the iPhone 3G after updating to iOS 4.2 and below. Support for the iPod Touch 2nd Gen has also been dropped.

Accordingly, the iOS 4.3 beta is available now for the iPad, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and iPod Touch 3rd and 4th Gen. A new beta of iOS 4.3 for the Apple TV has also been released to aid developers in testing their video content.

Note: As with previous releases of beta iOS software, you need to be enrolled in the developer program before updating your devices to the latest firmware.
